TESTIMONIALS

Mary Martha has a keen ability to sift through challenges to determine which goals to pursue first. She communicates ideas weekly of how to improve areas our daughter is struggling with & always celebrates our daughter’s progress! ~ JS

Mary Martha has been nothing short of a heaven-sent to my son and I. After hearing at my son's two year appointment that he needed speech therapy, I became devastated. I immediately began the search for a speech therapist for him and after meeting Mary Martha following a referral, I knew I didn't need to search any further.

It was evident right away that not only was she teaching my son, but she was teaching me. She was providing me with all the tools to help my son through this. When initially finding out my son needed therapy I felt like I had failed him and saddened at the fact that I, as his mother, couldn't help him. By Mary Martha not only teaching my son, but teaching me as well, I felt empowered and at ease knowing that we would get through this, together.

Mary Martha met my son right where he was at and he began progressing right away. Through play, teaching, and genuinely caring about me and my son his speech is growing by the day. I cannot recommend her enough or thank her enough for what she has done for my family.  ~ SB

Mary Martha has a natural gift for working with both parents and children. She puts parents at ease by listening to their concerns and identifying the child’s strengths so that she can make the best possible recommendations. While many providers give a list of recommendations that may be overwhelming for a family, Mary Martha focuses the recommendations specifically for each family and then assists them by following up to ensure that the recommendations fit the family’s needs. She understands that support during the initial phases of treatment is critical for the future success of the program. She also has the highest ethics and a trustworthy character. Mary Martha would never recommend interventions that she did not know were top quality. I have personally seen Mary Martha’s intervention style and the relationship she builds with a child is nothing less than amazing. I once watched her work for several years with a child who supposedly had a simple articulation issue. After working with the child, Mary Martha began to suspect that there was a structural issue. She referred the child to a local ENT doctor who stated the child was fine. Mary Martha persisted and was told time after time by a number of medical professionals that no structural issue was present. Knowing that her instinct was correct, Mary Martha recommended that the family undergo a full evaluation at Duke Medical Center. The Duke medical team found that the child had a hidden cleft palate that was causing his speech issue. Mary Martha’s persistence and the family’s dedication to the well-being of their child as well as their trust in Mary Martha made all the difference. Trust in Mary Martha and trust in yourself and your child will make wonderful progress at Hand in Hand Speech Consulting.   ~ Sally R. Miller, MEd, CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist

My grandson was a "late" talker and the family became very concerned with the progress of his speech development. My daughter researched agencies and Mary Martha Melancon's name had stellar reviews. After an evaluation it was determined that he required intervention. I brought my grandson 2x's per week for speech/language therapy with Mary Martha. With each session his skills strengthened. Mary Martha has a very special way with children. Because of my grandson's young age, I was able to sit in on the sessions. She is so engaging, fun, loving, and shows genuine care!
Mary Martha does an exceptional job with the home/agency connection, which supports carry over of the skills he was learning in the therapy sessions. I am a retired Special Education teacher and have worked with many speech/language therapists and I can say without hesitation and unequivocally that Mary Martha is one of the BEST!  Highly recommend.   ~ A Very Grateful Nana!
